Background & Mission

The Rotarun Ski Area at Art Richards Mountain was originally discovered as a ski area in 1947. Several involved individuals and groups, including Art Richards, the Arkoosh family, who gave the Rotarun a 99-year lease in 1957, the Hailey Rotary and dedicated people too innumerable to list have been key to Rotarun’s survival. Over the years, the ski area has been served by rope-toes of all types, a j-bar, and currently has a poma lift. At all times, Rotarun has served as an affordable ski area where children and families can learn to enjoy the lifetime pursuit of skiing. Rotarun is the only local area providing night skiing.

Today, many children, families, and other non-profit entitles have rediscovered Rotarun as an important ski asset that continues to serve its essential function of bringing ski enjoyment to all people.

To further that mission, Rotarun’s immediate future plans include:

• Developing a reliable snow source by including snow making

• Continue to develop a lift system that can accommodate expanding needs

• Developing a tubing hill, with multiple other uses

• Continuing discussions with other non-profits, including the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, to provide local alpine and nordic racers a local and safe place to train and develop and, as always, learn a healthy lifetime sport

• Provide a venue for events such as the Slush Cup, Arkoosh Cup and Snow Box Derby

• Expanding facilities to protect newly acquired machinery

• And, as always, providing a ski area where children of all economic backgrounds can learn to ski
